St Cedd’s School Girls Hockey Team Crowned Champions
St Cedd’s School’s Year 6 Girls A Team excelled in the U11 In2Hockey Championships 2018-2019, winning the tournament without conceding a single goal. On Monday 5 November, a team of nine girls attended the tournament at Redbridge Sports Centre where they played against six local schools, winning four of their matches and drawing two 0-0.
The girls’ outstanding play scooped them the top spot, which has never been achieved by St Cedd’s School before, and the whole team were delighted to bring home a shield for their incredible efforts. The team now go on to play in the regional competition, as representatives for Essex, which takes place on Wednesday 14 November at Redbridge Sports Centre.
Mrs Jo Guy, PE Teacher at Chelmsford’s St Cedd’s School, says, “The girls performed so well and were a huge credit to the School. They are a highly talented team that have been acknowledged by umpires and other coaches; they are extremely driven, passionate and show strong determination and perseverance. Going into the regional competition, we are the top team representing Essex, playing against Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.”
Their success at the U11 In2Hockey Championships closely follows another excellent performance which saw them win a large piece of silverware at the U11 New Hall Tournament on Friday 19 October. The girls demonstrated superb team spirit, excellent passages of play and accurate passing of the ball with pace.
“We wish them luck next week and hope their winning streak continues!” adds Mrs Guy.
